About the Exhibition
Going beyond the field of art, he also engages widely with science, philosophy, and architecture, calling himself a “coordinologist.” He developed an original world on the theme of resisting the destiny of death and salvaging the human spirit through composite art. His Diagrams works since the 1960s, which are made up of letters, symbols, and geometric figures and combining science and philosophy, and The Site of Reversible Destiny—Yoro Park, which opened in Yoro, Gifu in 1995 are architectural, experience-type projects and Arakawa’s major works. By fundamentally changing people’s conventional system of values and awakening and rebuilding dormant perceptions, Arakawa produces works that help to create new values and ideas and appeal to the human sensibilities.
This exhibition presents the Diagrams prints produced from 1960 to the 1980s from the collection of the museum , as well as a model related to The Site of Reversible Destiny—Yoro Park, to show the process of Arakawa’s art, philosophy, and thought over four decades.
